Parks Accessibility Conference Acknowledgements

Updated: Sep 6

This is an image of the words "Thank You", with each letter written on a block. The blocks are on top of a wooden bench, with a blurry image of greenery in the background.

We are so grateful for the support we received while planning the 2022 Parks Accessibility Conference and want to give a resounding thank you to everyone that offered encouragement, support, suggestions, feedback and their time. We could not have done it without you!

The Parks Accessibility Conference Team would like the thank the following people for making the 2022 conference possible.

  • First off, our overall project is being funded by a grant from Accessibility Standards Canada. We thank them for their commitment to improve accessibility standards and guidelines in Canada and are grateful for their support in our work.

  • We’d like to thank Lin Lobo’s event production team including Dan and Nolan. They did an excellent job as our event producers, working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our multi-day virtual event running smoothly. They were quick to deal with any tech issues that occurred, and we are grateful for their expertise in this area.

  • We would like to thank our interpreters for their time and expertise. It was of utmost importance to us that this conference be as accessible as possible. Providing live captions in English and French, audio translations for English and French, ASL interpretation and LSQ interpretation were non-negotiables for us. And we thank all of the captioners and interpreters for collaborating with us to make this event possible.

  • We would like to thank Amos Key Jr for reading our Land Acknowledgement and providing invaluable insight and assistance. We are grateful for his emotional and physical labour and offer our heartfelt thanks.

  • We would like to thank the members of the conference planning team as well as additional UHN members who assisted us as needed:

  • We would like to thank Hassan Khan, Hamed Ghomashchi, Hanaan Deen, and Shreya Anand. Hanaan was in charge of packing and sending out gift bags to the first 350 conference registrations, and Hassan, Hamed and Shreya were immensely helpful with packing and shipping.

  • We would like to thank Mark Weiler for his expertise on screen readers and consulting with our team on screen reader compatibility.

And last but not least, thank you to all of the speakers for sharing their stories, their lived experiences, their research and their work with all of us. We feel deeply inspired by the work that is occurring in this area, and are excited about the future of park accessibility.
